Can I buy a Schafpudel puppy from Germany?
Yes, you can bring a Schafpudel puppy from Germany to another EU country. The puppy travels with a microchip and an EU pet passport. To cross a border, EU rules also require a valid rabies vaccination, given from 12 weeks of age, followed by a 21-day wait. Some countries allow exceptions for young puppies.
Which EU rules apply when your puppy moves abroad?
For a dog travelling from Germany to another EU country, the European Union lists these requirements:
- Microchip, implanted before the rabies vaccination.
- Rabies vaccination at the earliest from 12 weeks of age, then at least 21 days of waiting before travel.
- EU pet passport, issued by a vet.
- Exceptions for young puppies: Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland accept younger, not yet fully protected puppies under conditions. Germany, France, Italy and Spain do not.
- Tapeworm treatment 1 to 5 days before arrival for Finland, Ireland, Malta, Norway and Northern Ireland, recorded in the passport.
Rules change and every country has its own details, so please check them with your vet or your national authority before you plan the trip. Source: Your Europe, travelling with pets in the EU.
What our puppies come with
Our puppies are born close to the family and are carefully imprinted and socialised in their first weeks of life. They leave vet-checked, microchipped, wormed and vaccinated, with an EU pet passport and a pedigree. They are ready to leave from around 8 to 10 weeks. If your puppy is going abroad, please talk to us early about the collection date, so that it fits the rules of your country.

5 tips for buying a Schafpudel puppy from abroad
- Get in touch early. The Schafpudel is an endangered breed with few breeders. Litters are planned months ahead, so an early first contact gives both sides time.
- Visit before you decide. Meet the mother, see where the puppies grow up and how the dogs live. A good breeder welcomes your visit and asks you questions too.
- Check the papers. The chip number in the EU pet passport must match the puppy. Ask for the pedigree and the vaccination record.
- Plan the journey home with your vet. Clarify the rabies rule and any extra treatment for your country before you fix the collection date. Plan regular breaks and a safe transport box.
- Ask about support afterwards. A puppy from far away still needs a breeder to call. We offer lifelong support, wherever your Schafpudel lives.
